• Make a diagonal stitch (from left bottom to right top) skipping two canvas intersections, move the needle to the left canvas hole to the first stitch, then make a diagonal stitch skipping three canvas intersections and make another one skipping four
• At the end of the third stitch go two canvas threads down, make the same diagonal stitches skipping two, three, and four canvas intersections but this time going from top left to bottom right
• Repeat the last step but start two strands of canvas to the left and at the end of this sequence move the needle two strands of canvas up to make the fourth strand
• Repeat the steps to make more squares, keeping in mind that the largest stitch on the edge of the square is only done once, so you will not have to do it again on the adjacent squares
