The Fern Needlepoint Stitch resembles the shape of a fern frond. It's commonly used in needlepoint to create foliage, grass, or other organic textures.

Stitch Details

Fern Stitch Instructions & Diagram

You can see the diagram of this stitch below.

  • Make a diagonal stitch from top left to bottom right, skipping two canvas intersections
  • Move the needle one canvas thread to the left (behind the canvas), and insert the needle from back to front
  • Make a diagonal stitch from bottom left to top right, skipping two canvas intersections
  • Move the needle (behind the canvas) three canvas threads to the left and one downward, then insert the needle from back to front
  • Repeat the process as many times as needed
