Gobelin Stitch

The Gobelin needlepoint stitch is commonly used for filling large areas of a needlepoint design.

Gobelin Stitch Instructions & Diagram

You can see the diagram of this stitch below. 

  • Secure your thread on the backside of the canvas by making a small knot.
  • You'll need to decide how long you want the stitch to be. Usually, it's better to work it over 2 to six canvas threads.
  • Insert the needle from the back of the fabric towards the front, where you want to start stitching.
  • We will do it this time by counting 2 threads of canvas.
  • Move the needle vertically upwards, count 2 threads of canvas, and then insert it into the next intersection.
  • Go down and continue stitching by skipping the same number of canvas threads.
  • Repeat the process as many times as needed.
