Old Florentine Stitch
The Old Florentine needlepoint stitch creates geometric patterns and designs. It is made of pairs of vertical straight stitches spanning two and six threads of canvas.

Old Florentine Stitch Instructions & Diagram

- Secure your thread on the backside of the canvas by making a small knot.
- Insert the needle from the back of the fabric to the front and move it vertically upwards skipping two canvas threads, then insert the needle from the front to the back.
- Repeat the previous step in the left column of the first stitch.
- For the third stitch, lower the needle two interceptions below and one canvas hole to the left of stitch 3, insert the needle, and make a vertical upward stitch skipping 6 canvas threads.
- Repeat the previous step to obtain pairs of stitches (1 pair skipping 2 canvas threads and 1 pair skipping 6 canvas threads).
- You can repeat the process as many times as you find necessary.
