Back Stitch
The Needlepoint Back Stitch is primarily used for outlining designs and creating fine lines.
Stitch Details
- Stitch Structure: Flat, Solid-line
- Recommended for: Small areas, Flowers, Clothes
Back Stitch Instructions & Diagram

- Decide the length of the stitches you will make
- Secure the thread with a small knot and pass the needle from the back to the front
- Note that if the direction of the row is from left to right, the stitch must be made from right to left
- (Following the example in the diagram) Perform a stitch horizontally to the left by skipping two canvas threads
- Move the needle four canvas threads to the right (behind the canvas)
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 as many times as you need.
- You can also do this stitch in a circle as it is shown in the diagram or any other form
