The Fan Needlepoint Stitch is used to create the appearance of a fan or shell-like pattern. It's often used for decorative borders, motifs, or filling larger areas in needlepoint.

Begin with a vertical stitch skipping four canvas threads, working from top to bottom
- Move the needle two threads of canvas to the right and four threads of canvas up (behind the canvas), and make a stitch from there to the same hole at the bottom
- Move the needle diagonally four canvas intersections up-right (behind the canvas), and make a stitch from there to the same hole at the bottom
- Move the needle two threads of canvas up and four canvas threads to the right (behind the canvas), and make a stitch from there to the same hole at the bottom

Move horizontally four canvas threads to the right (behind the canvas), and make a stitch from there to the same hole at the bottom
