- Start making a vertical stitch skipping four canvas threads (from bottom to top)
- To the bottom right of the previous stitch make three vertical stitches skipping two canvas threads each
- Aligned with the top of the previous stitches, start another long stitch over four canvas threads which should end two canvas threads below the last stitches
- The first long stitch of the second row should fit to the left of the leftmost long stitch of the first row
