- Start by making a diagonally downward to the right stitch, skipping two canvas intersections, then move the needle one thread of the canvas to the left (behind the canvas)
- Make another diagonal stitch upward to the right by skipping two intersections of the canvas, then repeat the needle movement one canvas thread to the left (behind the canvas)
- Alternate between steps one and two to create the desired pattern
