Bamboo Stitch
The Bamboo Needlepoint Stitch is classified as an Advanced Needlepoint Stitch, so it is helpful to use the diagram and watch the video tutorial below to understand how it will look on the canvas, and count the intersections.
This is a great stitch for a large pattern that needs some fun texture!
Stitch Details
- Stitch Structure: Pattern, Flat, Condensed
- Related Stitches: Wicker Stitch, Woven Pattern Stitch
- Recommended for: Large areas, Backgrounds, Clothes

You can see the diagram of this stitch below.
- Start stitching the vertical lines first, from the left side to the right
- The sequence is two tall stitches, followed by two small stitches, and so on
- Then you can add the horizontal stitches, on the top and bottom of the two short vertical stitches
- Be careful when placing the needle to do these stitches, to avoid piercing the vertical stitches that are already there.
You can also do multiple lines of the vertical stitches, and then fill them with horizontal ones, as shown on the video tutorial below.
